Canadian Makes Polo History



According to The London Free Press, Fred Mannix Jr. has become the first Canadian ever to qualify for the prestegious Argentine Open. Fred willl be playing with Alegria Park Hyatt, a multinational team that includes Luke Tomlinson (UK), Jack Baileu (Australlia) and Pancho Bensadon (Argentina). APH held on to beat Miramar by two points Friday to win a qualifying tournament and advance to the Abierto which runs November 18th to December 9th at Palermo, Buenos Aires.

Polo Match Promotes Breeders' Cup Races


About an hour south of New York City is Colts Neck, NJ (pop. 12,331). A polo match was held there last Sunday, Oct. 14th, to raise money for the ReRun Adopt a Thoroughbred organization and promote the 2007 Breeders' Cup which will be held later this week, October 26-27, at nearby Monmoth Park.

According to the Asbury Park Press, the match was "a smashing success, drawing more than 600 people and raising at least $30,000". The match, part of the Breeders Cup Fan Fest, was brought about by the combined efforts of the Colts Neck Charitable Polo Club and the Oceanport Sports Foundation. Well done!

Equine Flu Grips Australia


Equine influenza has forced the cancellation or rescheduling of a wide variety of equestrian events in Australia. The outbreak started in New South Wales and was confirmed on August 24, 2007.

Australia has restricted horse movement. Anyone who move horses without permission during the current suspected equine influenza will suffer harsh penalties including a fine of up to $44,000 and up to a year in imprison.


The best source of information is the NWS Department of Primary Industries.

I just got too busy to do this last year, so I had to let it go. But now I'm going to set aside some time each day to let you know what's going on in the world of polo.

On May 12, 2007 a USA vs. England polo match will take place in Leesburg, Virginia. The Americas Cup of Polo is part of the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Jamestown, Virginia. The England team will be patroned by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales.

The site of The Americas Cup of Polo will be Morven Park, the historic estate of Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis (1918-1922). Morven Park is located near Washington, DC.

Gulf Stream Polo Sold to Developers


The historic Gulfstream Polo Club, in Lake Worth, Florida (USA) has been sold to developers who received approval last week from Palm Beach County commissioners to build 866 homes on their property.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the club was sold for a whopping $301,150 per-acre!
